Erlen is published as open source under the Apache License 2.0. It is not sold.
This is a courtesy translation. The Japanese version prevails. （日本語版が正文です） Where this page and the 日本語版の表記 differ, the Japanese text is the binding one. The licence itself is governed by the original English text of the Apache License 2.0, as published in the repository.

Licence
Erlen is provided under the Apache License 2.0. The full text lives in the LICENSE file of the repository.
What it permits
- Use, reproduction, modification, derivative works, redistribution and sublicensing — including commercial use
- Deployment to your own cloud account, rollout across a company or university, and distribution of a modified version
- Feeding the entire source to an AI development tool (such as Claude Code) and having it set up, operate and modify Erlen (it is designed for exactly that)
- A patent grant from contributors (Apache-2.0 section 3)
Conditions
- Include a copy of the licence and the copyright notice with any redistribution
- Carry over the contents of the NOTICE file, where one exists
- State prominently that you changed the files you changed
- Do not use the Erlen name or marks to imply endorsement of your product (no trademark licence is granted)
Disclaimer
- Erlen is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied (Apache License 2.0, sections 7 and 8)
- The author is not liable for damages arising from its use. This includes loss, corruption or leakage of lab records, cloud usage charges, and any conflict with research ethics, intellectual property, export control, laws, or the rules of your institution
- Preserving your records is your responsibility. Take backups and test restores regularly (with the bundled eln-backup skill)
- Erlen is a tool for managing research records; it does not guarantee conformity with GxP, CSV, 21 CFR Part 11 or similar requirements. Do not use it for work subject to inspection
- Whether the records it produces satisfy your institution's rules or any given guideline is for you to judge
- Neither support nor future updates are guaranteed. There is no help desk
Individual help with a deployment or a migration can be arranged for a fee. Write to gakushijob@gmail.com; whether we take it on is at our discretion.
Third-party software
- The structure editor Ketcher, made by EPAM Systems, is bundled under the Apache License 2.0, together with its licence text and NOTICE
- RDKit.js is bundled for structure rendering, under the BSD 3-Clause licence, together with its licence text
- Compound information is looked up through the public API of PubChem (US NIH / NLM). Follow PubChem's policies for the data you retrieve
- The bundled reagent and equipment presets are example seed data. Physical properties and regulatory classifications vary by grade and supplier, so always confirm against primary sources such as the SDS
